where i’m at, and where i’m headed

well everyone i’d like to give you all a very exact update as to where i’m at on my music projects.

- for the last few months (or more depends on how you count), I have been clamoring to get ‘officially’ started on a music project i have had in mind. i won’t go into specifics, but it goes much along the lines of a traditional ‘album’, but infusing many other aspects of art into the final product. i dont see it as something that i could possibly do while in college and could take at least a year of full-time work to complete to my expectations with limited resources. ultimately, i feel that it must wait until i am done with school, which may not be for another 2 years (including graduate school). i am very passionate about music, and producing has long been a dream/goal of mine…i have to start it when i know i am ready. right now, i am not ready, not mentally/spiritually/financially ready yet, nor are my skills in the studio ready yet. but i am constantly working towards that point when i can finally say ‘im ready to begin’ and ask others to join the project.

- for my current projects, i am at somewhat of a finishing point with ‘Taunt’, the track i have been working on the last couple of months. i could have been done much sooner, but that whole college thing remember? yea. right now my collaborative partner Dan Grashof is working on any ideas he can add or take away from the track, so i am patiently awaiting his input/contributions.

- ‘Exorcism’, the follow-up, or ‘sister track’ to ‘Seance’ which i completed several months ago, is about ready for completion. it needs some minor edits to adjust for ‘musical structure’, and some other clean-up edits which shouldn’t take long. Dan Grashof recorded the lead synth parts for both of these tracks. we met up one afternoon and he just laid down a bunch of amazing improvisational work over what i played for him, and it became this project. we were both somewhat disappointed with the direction i took it: he asked that i redo it bringing out his leads more, and making some of the sections ‘pop’ out more towards the end, and i wanted to trash ‘Seance’ but decided i would leave it as is and start from scratch with a very similar, but different at heart track which would satisfy both of our gripes, which resulted in ‘Exorcism’. Dan is very pleased and excited about the result, and so am i. I hope that i can get it mastered sometime soon! (any takers?)

‘Exorcism’ will be posted in a new post sometime within the next 3 weeks (it’s finals week at RIT, and i’m trying to finish up a lot of things at once, including this project)

- lastly, i am going to begin a remix project. i want to focus on 40′s/50′s era early rock n’ roll. i have a few artists in mind i’d like to take on, like Little Richard. i expect it to just be a fun project, no grammys or life changing experiences coming from this one! haha

until then, stay tuned and keep an eye out for the final edit of ‘Exorcism’. it was a great learning experience as a single project, and i’d like to move on, and hear everyones constructive criticism.
